The Master's Table
Golden Harvest Food Bank owns and operates a soup kitchen in downtown Augusta that serves the hungry and homeless of our community. In 1982, in response to an overwhelming need in the area, Golden Harvest founded the Master’s Table as its first outreach program. In FY2007, the Master’s Table Soup Kitchen served 94,252 meals to an average of 257people a day. The Master’s Table was initially hosted at various downtown Augusta churches, but now serves a hot meal every day of the year at our centralized location at 842 Fenwick Street, situated between Augusta’s main post office and Walton Way.
- Cooks, prepares, and serves a free, noontime meal to men, women, and children 364 days a year;
- Provides supplemental food such as bread or fruit for guests to take with them;
- Helps the homeless by providing daily nutrition, a place to gather for fellowship, and assistance resources;
- Serves as a source of information and a reference for other local assistance programs;
- Provides free provisions so any money obtained can be used for acquiring a permanent residence and taking other steps toward self-sufficiency.
The Master’s Table Soup Kitchen opens at 8:30 every morning for food preparation. Volunteer groups of 10 to 12 people cook meals, heat prepared foods, set up the serving line, and open the dining room doors from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
