Golden Harvest Food Bank operates a mobile food program that delivers at least 5,000 pounds consisting primarily of fresh produce to the needy in the rural and at-risk counties. The Manna Truck Program is an extremely effective method of assisting the hungry in a targeted area. At a cost of $200, it allows agencies or groups to distribute nutritious products to approximately 175 needy families in a short amount of time in one given location. Manna Trucks do the following:

  • provide  a variety of fresh produce that is in season at the time of delivery;
  • expand food pantry service areas by taking food to rural areas that otherwise have no access to a food pantry;
  • make quick turnarounds of produce from food bank and distribution centers which would normally be turned away due to space limitations;
  • provided 1,645,204 pounds to the needy in FY2007.
