Children's Harvest Program
Golden Harvest Food Bank operates the Children's Harvest Program which provides free, prepared food as well as homework assistance to hungry children. In addition to providing hot meals, Children Harvest's offer kids a safe place to get involved in educational, recreational, and social activities that draw on existing community programs
Served 31,400 meals feeding approximately 224 children each school night in FY2007. Sites are located in successful after-school programs at churches, recreation centers, and housing developments that are safe and accessible to the children’s homes and schools.
Volunteer site-coordinators and staff organize the program which encourages parental involvement and educates the public about the perils of childhood hunger and attainable solutions.
The Golden Harvest Food Bank’s Children's Harvest program not only provides meals to kids experiencing hunger, but also teaches the important life skills our young people need to break the cycle of dependency on emergency food sources. The Children's Harvest offers daily activities such as homework help, adult mentoring, music, dance, arts and crafts, nutrition education, and team building games.
Children's Harvest need your help to continue providing such a valuable service to the children of our community. Your financial contribution to Golden Harvest Food Bank enables the continuation and expansion of the Children's Harvest Program throughout the CSRA.
