Tips for a Successful Food Drive

  • Establish a contact person and/or committee to manage communications and logistics, and to set goals.

  • Define a timeline for your food drive. Two weeks is a minimum amount of time to run a successful drive unless it is special event focused.

  • Obtain sturdy containers for food collection (plastic bins, heavy cardboard boxes, etc.) and label them for clear identification.  Please contact GHFB's Event Specialist if you need assistance finding collection barrels or need barrel posters.  We have barrels available for pick up and use here at the Food Bank. Make sure all containers are placed at convenient drop-off points for donors.

  • Advertise and promote your food drive!  Be sure to let your community know when and where your food drive is happening.

  • Arrange for the transportation of all food drive items to your local GHFB Warehouse or Distribution Center.

  • If your collection exceeds 400 items, Golden Harvest may be able to coordinate a pick-up.

  • Communicate the results of your food drive and celebrate your success with your participants!
